Tērbatas Dārzi Dzīvojamais Kvartāls ar "Zaļo Sirdi"

The proposed development is situated on three plots within the former Sporta Pils quarter, framed by Tērbatas, Lielgabalu, and Krišjāņa Barona Streets — an area within the historic heart of Riga. The project, titled Tērbatas Dārzi, was designed for an architectural design competition launched in June 2024. It introduces a new residential quarter that is deeply embedded in the values and identity of its urban context.

The masterplan envisions three high-quality residential buildings that integrate seamlessly into the surrounding cityscape. At the core of the development lies a generous, lushly landscaped courtyard — the "green heart" of the quarter. The spatial layout is carefully composed to include a gradient of private, semi-private, and public zones within the courtyard, ensuring permeability and accessibility not only for future residents but also for the wider urban community and visitors.

The design proposal submitted to the competition envisions a development comprising three distinct building volumes. These are articulated through two architecturally diverse, yet harmoniously integrated, design languages. The street-facing façades offer a contemporary interpretation of the characteristic features found in Riga’s historical center, particularly within its perimeter block structures. Architectural elements such as articulated cornices, bay windows, and sloped roofs with a ridge height of 24 meters reference the surrounding urban fabric while establishing a modern identity.

The ground floor is designed with extensive glazing for commercial premises, activating the street edge and fostering a publicly accessible, vibrant pedestrian environment.
