The Livonian Order of Riga has for centuries served as a centre of power for a larger or smaller territory. Its location in the centre of Riga and its close proximity to the Daugava River determine the territorial, functional and representative importance of the castle. The concept of the restoration of the Riga Castle is based on the maximum preservation of the historical substance for future generations. The modifications of the historic parts of the building and the addition of modern architectural elements are the minimum necessary to reveal the true historical value of the Castle and to ensure the full existence of the Latvian National History Museum.
